About This Event

Byron Bay Quantum (BBQ) is a focused, informal workshop that brings together leading researchers and early career experts working on different hardware to discuss progress and open problems, with a goal of advancing early career researchers. The 2026 workshop centers on new qubits, bosonic and spin codes, and other unconventional codes and hardware, with an emphasis on bosonic error-correcting codes. Organizers are Josh Combes (University of Melbourne), Xanthe Croot, Deb Gooley, and Belinda Wong (University of Sydney), and Tom Smith (Yale University). Invited speakers include John Martinis, Jonathan Home, Pérola Milman, Alexander Grimm, Machiel Blok, Andrew Doherty, Wes Campbell, and Jie (Sophie) Zhao, with more to be announced.
