About This Event
The Afterlives of War: The Dead, Forensic Anthropology, and the Work of Justice What happens to the dead after war ends? Forensic investigations are often framed as pathways to identification, accountability, and closure, but the dead remain embedded in relationships among families, communities, institutions, and the landscapes where violence occurred. Drawing on forensic and ethnographic work in East Africa and North America, this talk examines how communities negotiate the recovery, identification, and return of the dead—and asks what forensic anthropology can contribute to justice when the meanings and consequences of violence remain unresolved.
