About This Event
SHORT NOTICE: Tour Opportunity: MSU Denver Aviation, Manufacturing & EE Labs – Friday, Nov 6 URGENT: I have a couple of notes regarding this tour: - In order to allow everyone who wants to try a flight simulator the opportunity to do so, we are limiting participation to 20 attendees. - Because lunch is provided, registration will close on 04 Nov 2026 12:00 AM so we know how much food to order I realize this email is going out on short notice, but an exciting opportunity has come up for us to tour two impressive facility spaces on the campus of The Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday, November 6th. Tour Highlights - Robert J. Mock World Indoor Airport (WIA) One of the premier collegiate aviation and aerospace simulation training facilities in the country. Housed within the Aeronautics and Aerospace Systems (AAS) Labs, it features an extensive lineup of FAA-approved flight training devices (FTDs) including Single-Engine Aircraft, Light Twin-Engine, Turbo-Props, and Corporate & Commercial Jets. For those who wish to, there will be an opportunity to fly these simulators. In addition, the WIA features an 18-position Air Traffic Control Laboratory built to mimic a real-world radar facility. - Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute (AMSI) and Electrical Engineering Labs Located in the Aerospace and Engineering Sciences (AES) Building, AMSI houses state-of-the-art facilities—including the Lockheed Martin Additive Manufacturing Laboratory—that bridge hands-on prototyping with industrial-grade manufacturing. - Live Demonstrations: This will not be a static tour—we will see machines in operation, including Metal Additive Manufacturing, Industrial Polymer Additive Manufacturing, and High-Precision SLA & Desktop Printing. - CNC & Machining: Students will be operating traditional and CNC machining equipment during our visit. - Fabrication & Finishing: Additional setups include Laser Cutting & Engraving, Metal Forming, TIG/MIG Welding, and Surface Finishing equipment. Also, because of our EE background, we will also tour the Electrical Engineering labs. Highlights include the Electric Machines / Motor Lab, Electronics & Circuits Labs, Digital Systems & Microcontroller Labs, Power Systems & Automation Labs, and Communications & RF Labs. Agenda: 10 – 11: Arrive at Aerospace and Engineering Sciences (AES) Building and tour Professor Lee and Professor Bao’s spaces (manufacturing and electrical engineering) 11 – 12: Lunch in Conference Room AES 430. 12 – Move to Aeronautics and Aerospace Systems (AAS) Labs for tour of World Indoor Airport with opportunity to fly simulators at WIA facility.
