About This Event

From 11 AM - 1 PM in the Sid Martin main lobby, attendees are invited to stop by for lunch, refreshments, and conversation with our laboratory automation specialists. Rather than focusing on a single application or product, the session is designed around the work being done by companies within the Sid Martin community. Bring us your workflow. Whether you are working with PCR and qPCR, NGS, genomics, cell-based assays, sample preparation, assay development, plate-based workflows, reagent dispensing, normalization, dilution series, or another application, we can discuss how automation could potentially fit into your process. The goal is to help answer questions such as: - What parts of my current workflow can realistically be automated? - When does automation make sense and when does it not? - How can automation improve reproducibility and consistency? - Can automation help reduce hands-on time or increase throughput? - How do you translate an existing manual protocol into an automated workflow? - What should a lab consider before implementing liquid handling automation? An Eppendorf automated liquid handling platform will be available so attendees can see the technology and discuss specific applications with the team. Following the Lunch & Learn, from approximately 1 - 1:30 PM, Eppendorf will host a more focused 20-30 minute educational presentation in the conference room covering the fundamentals of laboratory automation, common applications, workflow development, and considerations when transitioning from manual pipetting to automated liquid handling. Meet with Phillip Tender and Taylor Smith of Eppendorf. Terrie Gunter of USA Scientific will also be onsite during the event to meet with attendees and support discussions around laboratory workflows, consumables, and automation applications.About our speakers:Philip Tendler Philip Tendler supports laboratory automation and floor model centrifugation technologies throughout the Southeastern United States for Eppendorf North America. With a graduate background in molecular genetics from the University of Georgia and experience working with academic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and research laboratories, Philip focuses on helping scientists evaluate technologies that can improve workflow efficiency, reproducibility, throughput, and overall laboratory productivity.Taylor Smith Taylor Smith is an Application Integration Specialist with Eppendorf North America, specializing in automated liquid handling applications and workflow development. Taylor works directly with scientists to understand existing laboratory protocols, identify opportunities for automation, and translate manual processes into reliable automated workflows. During the event, Taylor will be available to discuss individual applications and the practical considerations involved in developing automated methods. Thank you to our sponsors:    ——————UF Innovate | Accelerate UF Innovate | Accelerate is the University of Florida's entrepreneurship support program that includes Sid Martin Biotech, the globally recognized biotechnology incubator located in Progress Park in Alachua, Florida, and The Hub, the globally recognized diversified tech incubator located in Gainesville's Innovation District.
