About This Event
Among events for architects in the US, ARCC 2027 stands out for its research focus. Tulane University’s School of Architecture & the Built Environment leads as host for the event. Co-hosting duties go to the University of Louisiana Lafayette’s School of Architecture & Design. The theme is “Architecture of Performance: Bodies / Buildings / Behaviors.” It pushes past the old idea of the discipline as a finished object. Instead, ARCC 2027 treats buildings as ongoing processes: shifting with the people inside them, the materials that age, the environmental systems running through the walls, and the behavior patterns a space picks up over time. Submissions organize around three lenses: Bodies — movement, perception, health, cognition, water, and human experience. Buildings — responsive structures, materiality, climate performance, resilience, and adaptive design. Behaviors — ecosystems, social practices, education, infrastructure, and patterns of use. Each lens sets a different scale for research, from individual perception to citywide systems of use. Four broader tracks extend this structure for paper submissions: Performative Ecologies, Cultural Performers, Performative Pedagogies and Practices, An open track for work outside these three themes. This range makes ARCC 2027 a fit for researchers, academics, educators, graduate students, and practitioners working with evidence-based or experimental design.
