About This Event

The Society of Architectural Historians will hold its 80th Annual International Conference in Chicago from April 14 to 18, 2027. The event is primarily academic, but its audience extends beyond architectural historians to architects, landscape and urban historians, curators, researchers, and educators from different countries. Much of the program will revolve around 54 thematic sessions presenting new research. The subjects will span different periods, regions, building types, and landscapes rather than following a single central theme. Open Sessions and Graduate Student Lightning Talks will also give younger scholars and researchers working outside the main program an opportunity to present their work. The conference is expected to include: Research paper presentations, Keynote lectures, Topic-based roundtable discussions, Networking receptions, Informal discussions with other specialists. SAH conferences also combine academic sessions with guided architectural tours. In Chicago, these tours will allow participants to examine historic buildings and urban sites in person rather than discussing them only in conference rooms.
